Why do area answers need squared units?

Area measures two dimensions, so units are squared (sq ft, m², sq in, cm²). Multiplying feet × feet gives square feet. Volume measures three dimensions and uses cubed units (cu ft, m³).

Is π exact?

π is an irrational number with infinite decimals. For schoolwork, 3.14 or 3.1416 is standard; for exact answers, leave π in the result (e.g. 25π sq cm).

How do I convert sq ft to sq m?

Multiply by the exact constant 0.09290304 (1 sq ft = 0.09290304 m²). Converting lengths first then squaring gives the same result.

When do I use ½ × b × h instead of l × w?

Use ½ × b × h for triangles (a triangle is half a rectangle with the same base and height). Use l × w for rectangles.
